It’s that time of year again. You know when you’re running around like a ‘chicken with its head cut off’ trying to make sure your house is clean 24/7. After all, you will have a constant flow of friends and family over for the holidays. I used to be the woman who went to their local supermarket and loaded up on cleaning supplies just to make sure my house smelled (and looked) great. However, one night after tolling over Pinterest I found a secret weapon for my house - vinegar.

According to Vingear Tips, vinegar has been used for over 10,000 years-making it the world’s oldest ingredient! That’s right - that nasty tasting ingredient that’s good for cleansing your hair or fulfilling recipes is also good for cleaning everything from your washer to your shower.

Here are four practical uses for vinegar when cleaning your house:

  1. Cleaning soap scum out of your shower.  Combine about ¼ cup of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of liquid detergent (any kind will work) and just enough white distilled vinegar.
  2. Cleaning the microwave. Mix together ½ cup of vinegar, ½ cup of water in a microwave safe bowl and cook to a boil. The residue will soften AND will make the whole microwave smell lovely!
  3. Cleaning the refrigerator. How many times does your mother-in-law look inside your refrigerator during the holidays? To get it clean, pour some vinegar on a paper towel with warm water.
  4. Cleaning your brass and copper in the house. What's worse than smudged brass and copper? Mix an equal amount of vinegar and table salt to get your brass smudge-free.

In the end, vinegar is an easy way to clean your house without busting your budget or bringing some dangerous chemicals into your home. This holiday season along with the turkey and dressing, pick up some vinegar to make your life a little bit easier!

Have you ever used vinegar for cleaning?
