Oh the joys of marriage, motherhood and careers.  How on earth do we schedule “me time” when we wear so many hats (and caps) on a daily basis?  The answer is that we make time.  Believe it or not our families also benefit when we take at least 24-48 hours to center ourselves and recharge our batteries. 

Author Amy Tiemann made a very interesting statement in her book, Mojo Mom: Nurturing Your Self While Raising a Family:

“You are a first responder.  An emergency can come up at any time, and you should be as well rested and restored as you’d want your ER doc or EMT to be.  And besides, taking care of yourself will make you a better parent and partner. You’ll be more fun to be around and more responsive to your family.”

Each month set aside at least one day for “Me Time.”  Pack an overnight bag filled with your favorite magazines, books, candles and inspirational music.  It is very ironic that I am writing this email today from a “forced” Staycation of my own.  As fate would have it, my son is currently on a spiritual weekend retreat, and I “suddenly” remembered a birthday gift that I received from the Ritz-Carlton hotel.  Without enough time to cancel or change my mind, I secured my reservation.  Here I am, enjoying my blessing (an upgraded executive suite), blasting Ledisi, enjoying the fragrance from a Natori Midnight Amber candle and nursing a bottle of Nik Weis Selection, Urban Riesling.  I must admit that is has taken me about five hours to actually unwind and submerge myself into a peaceful bliss under the covers with my favorite magazines.
