While turning the big number one is a big deal, planning a party your child and guests will love may seem overwhelming. First and foremost, keep it short. Unless your guests don't mind a sleeping (or cranky) guest of honor, plan your party between your child's normal nap times. Also, try and keep the guestlist limited to close friends and family. If your child has a number of regular play pals with other children, invite their parents to celebrate your child's birthday during an upcoming play date. If there are kids at the party, let them be kids; it may be difficult to get toddlers to participate in organized games. Opt for an open play space with toys and activities your little guests can explore at their own pace. But the most important advice we can give you is have fun! As the hostess, you may feel pressured to keep your little ones and the adult guests entertained. Remember to keep your expectations to a minimum and enjoy the moment.
