Eleven-year-old Bailey O’Neill was bullied at school. That bullying put him in the hospital and later caused his death, his family told NBC10.
Bailey was jumped by two boys during recess in January at Darby Township School, suffering a concussion and broken nose. The boy’s grandmother, Joy Fecanin, said he started to have seizures the following day and doctors put him into a drug-induced coma. He then had to receive a blood transfusion after catching pneumonia.
Bailey’s younger brother has been removed from school because his parents are worried he will also be bullied. Police are talking to students and recess aides to find out what happened the day of the fight and if there’d been a history of conflict between the three boys. Doctors and police officers are also in process to determine whether the beating Bailey received was the cause of his seizures.
The students who jumped Bailey were suspended from school for two days but the police have not yet announced whether they will be criminally charged.
