Back in the 90’s The Real World and Big Brother were the mainstays in terms of reality TV shows. Today, there is no shortage for the voyager at heart to sit back and indulge, in fact, you’d be hard pressed to turn the channel without passing several of these shows on the way to something non-reality based.
The question is why is America so obsessed with reality TV? Is it the raw unpredictable nature of these shows that keeps us tuning in? Or maybe the sheer entertainment that you are provided with when Stevie J makes his silly faces, or when Gordon Ramsey curses out a restaurant owner.
Whatever it is, the numbers don’t lie, Americans are loving it and don’t show any signs of slowing down. I thought I was going to pass out when the cameras followed Love and Hip Hop star Jocelyn into the bathroom stall to check in on her pregnancy test results. I must admit, I’m a bit frightened as to where the lines will be drawn. As a grown woman I can appreciate the comic relief reality TV provides with some of the low budget acting and soap opera like break up scenes, nothing but pure entertainment and a guilty pleasure at best. So what do you want to see next? Maybe a face off between Real Housewives of Alabama vs. Real Housewives of Orlando, Fl.?
“Let’s see more reality shows based on men or real working women”.
