With the release of R. Kelly's new CD, 'Black Panties,' a lot of old skeletons are reemerging from his closet. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, I'm sure y'all know exactly what I'm talking about. If you need a reminder, rumor has it Kellz likes his "women" young... very young... so young in fact, they aren't "women" at all, they're girls.
I remember the first time I saw R. Kelly & Aaliyah together. They were on an episode of Video Soul. They were discussing her album, which R. Kelly was producing, ironically (or maybe appropriately) entitled 'Age Aint Nothing But A Number'. They were asked if they were boyfriend/girlfriend. Aaliyah replied that they were "very close" and that he was her "best friend in the whole wide world." I didn't think much of it, until the end of the interview, when the host asked Aaliyah how old she was. "It's a secret," was her answer. Hold up- why was her age a secret? Red flags immediately went up, why doesn't she want anyone to know her age? A few months later, when it was revealed R. Kelly & Aaliyah had secretly gotten married, it all made sense. R. Kelly was in his mid-twenties at the time... Aaliyah was just 15. They had lied about her age, in order to get married. When Aaliyah's parents found out- they had the marriage annulled.
That was the first of many under-age incidents that we would find out about, involving R. Kelly and young girls. With each and every report, I became more and more disgusted with him. While I was disgusted, many others seemed unaffected by the shocking revelations that seemed to be making headlines every time I turned on the TV or radio. People seemed to be ignoring what had become so very clear to me; R. Kelly was/is a man with a serious problem. Can you say Sexual Deviant? What about Pedophile? I can!
The allegations that have been levied against Kellz are sordid, vile, filthy and wretched. I could go on and on. This is a 'man' that reportedly cruised schools, looking for young girls. When I say young, I'm talking 11 & 12 years olds! That's 5th & 6th graders, babies! People in his hometown of Chicago were aware of this practice, yet they looked the other way. WHY? Is it because he's a celebrity? Because he made good music, music folks liked to get freaky to? Please tell me this isn't the reason. It can't be the reason, can it?! I don't care how good his music is- I cannot & will not, support, endorse or listen to, someone that preys on young girls. I don't see how anyone can still support him and his career, especially women. Ladies, when Kellz sings about 'Feelin' on Yo Booty," he's not talking about you- he's talking about your daughters, your nieces and your granddaughters. Believe that!
The tapes... we all know about the tapes. Videos of him (allegedly of him,) with a 14 year old girl. In the video, a male can be seen urinating on a young girl, URINATING! How is this ok? Why isn't every woman on the face of the Earth outraged by this? That could be your baby he's pissing on! Would that be cool? I hear so many people saying, "Leave R. Kelly alone. That's in the past." You know what? I WON'T leave R. Kelly alone, because I've known males (I won't call them men, because they're not), like him. Males that prey on little girls, because they want to be the first to pop that cherry. Males that want to control & dominate the females they're with, and a little girl is a whole lot easier to control than a grown woman. It's not right, and I'm speaking up for all those little girls out there-they deserve to have a voice. They deserve to know someone cares. They matter - their bodies aren't toys for sexual deviants to play with and abuse.
What if it wasn't R. Kelly... what if it was a teacher or a principal at your child's school. Imagine your child's teacher preying on 11 year old girls in his class, or urinating on one of his 14 year old students. Would that be ok? Would you be saying to leave him alone and get over it? Would you? That'd be ok, right? If it's ok for Kellz to behave that way, then surely it's all right for teachers and principals to behave in the same manner, right? Oh wait... my child's teacher never sang 'I Believe I Can Fly'.
