Couple in Kara Neumann Prayer Death Case Finally Starting Jail Sentence

Dale and Leilani Neumann, the couple in the Kara Neumann prayer death case, have been in the news off and on for the last six years. The Wisconsin couple turned to prayer instead of doctors for their 11-year-old daughter Kara instead of taking her to the hospital, and she died in March 2008 of untreated diabetes. They were convicted of second-degree reckless homicide. The court had placed a stay on the beginning of their sentence as the Neumanns appealed the decision, but a judge has ruled they're finally going to jail.

Dale and Leilani will serve six months in prison, a month at a time, and ten years probation. In a hearing earlier this week, the Neumanns and their attorney argued they'd suffered enough, thanks to financial issues, shunning by their community and of course, the death of their daughter. But that's insane. It's not enough. A child died of untreated diabetes because they refused to realize there was an actual problem. The fact that this case has dragged on so long is disturbing and disgusting.

I know the Neumann’s oldest daughter. This family is so sweet and these parents had no intention of letting their daughter die. They had no idea that Kara was dealing with diabetes, as the kind she had can cause symptoms that seem flu like. Please have more mercy on how you are referring to them. They loved their daughter more than anything, and their world was turned upside down when she passed. It wasn’t just that they believed God would heal her, it was also that they didn’t realize it was diabetes. They thought she may have the flu because the type of diabetes Kara had has flu like symptoms and also appears within a 24 hour period, which is how it happened with Kara. Look DKA diabetes up on wiki and read what I’m talking about. They were giving her chicken broth and juice to drink to help appease her symptoms and were loving her and praying for her. They had no idea what happened would happen. This was just a parents worse nightmare come true. Try to put yourself in their shoes. Their daughter died because they failed to realize what was really happening in her body, not because they’re irresponsible people who chose to not medicate their daughter. They would have done anything to save her if they realized how fire the situation was. But unfortunately, by time they did…it was too late. It’s a sad story indeed. They need support right now. Especially with how they’ve been portrayed and put through so much. Yes their daughter died, and it is a tragedy, but they didn’t cause it, and if they would have realized it wasn’t the flu but DKA, things would probably be different.
