DON’T LET YOUR FINANCES GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR FITNESS

Money has been funny for many Americans these days. But we cannot let finances get in the way of getting our bodies tight, especially as the fall approaches. Before this couch potato turned Operation Fit Chick began her journey to health and wellness, I thought you needed to spend a lot of money to get healthy. I was so wrong.

In order to lose the 45 pounds that I wanted to shed off my body, it was going to have to be done outside of a gym. I’m a cheapskate, so paying a monthly bill for something that I knew I would not use more than here or there, just did not sit well with me. So I took it back to the days before Planet Fitness, LA Fitness and personal trainers. I went outside!

Using the great outdoors is the best way to get fit without breaking the bank. Go to your local park and walk or run. If you do not have a local park in your area, walk around your community.

I was lucky enough to know the owner of a great organization called Hike4Life whose primary mission is to engage the African American community and other minorities in hiking and outdoor sports. For a small donation, I went on my very first hiking trip and have been in love with it since! My goal is to hike 3 more times before the year is out.

Don’t like going outside much? All you need is a little bit of space in your living room for squats, pushups, jumping jacks, planks, sit-ups, lunges and weights.

My daily routine consists of 100 squats, 100 push ups and 100 jumping jacks a day; weights 3-day a week; and walking with a couple of days of running.

None of these free activities mean a thing if you are not eating properly. Fresh fruits and vegetables, WATER and healthy home cooked meals over fast food are always a sure way to save money and eat better.

I’m still working on the “home cooked meal” part.

    On days when I don’t go to Curves, I would run up and down the 10 stairs in my apartment like 30 reps, plus jogging and sit-ups to keep my belly flat.

      Great point!I do that too. I’m in a 3 family house so the back stairs go to all 3 levels… days that it’s to cold to go outside I’ll go up and down 30-45 minutes
